Leeds.gov.uk content editing guide

Clear, well-structured content helps citizens access the services and information they need quickly and confidently.

Follow our content standards

Take some time to read through our content standards.

We follow these to ensure content is consistent and effective across our site.

Always refer to them when writing content. The use of these helps support and maintain trust with citizens, as our site is the front door to the council.

Make it accessible

Everyone should be able to use our content and as a local government organisation, we must adhere to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

Scope have a great beginners guide for creating accessible content. It covers a number of areas that will be relevant to a content editor:

  • heading hierarchies
  • fonts and readability
  • use of capitalisation, italics and quotes
  • writing in plain English
  • link text

The current process

As a contributor you will be able to edit pages using a page builder, which includes a number of LocalGov Drupal components.

When you save your changes, they will go to webmaster for review.

Once reviewed, we'll provide feedback on your content with notes explaining any changes required to align with content standards and web accessibility. This is to help you understand how to apply this in future.
